Case Study
ENWIN
Utility: ENWIN Utilities
Location: Windsor, Ontario, Canada
Infrastructure Type: Wood & Concrete Distribution Poles
ENWIN Utilities serves the Windsor region, maintaining critical electrical infrastructure exposed to harsh seasonal weather, freeze-thaw cycles, and urban traffic impacts.

The Challenge
In Windsor’s climate, infrastructure faces:
- Freeze-thaw cycling
- Long-term material aging
- Vehicle collision damage
- Structural cracking in concrete poles
- Ground-line decay in wood poles
Full pole replacement is capital-intensive, logistically complex, and disruptive. For municipal utilities, large-scale replacement can significantly impact ratepayers.
ENWIN sought a solution that could restore structural integrity without burdening customers with full infrastructure replacement costs.

The Solution
GridWrap partnered with ENWIN Utilities to reinforce both concrete and wood poles using DEMIRWRAP® as composite structural wrap technology.
The field deployment included:
- Restoration of cracked concrete poles
- Reinforcement of structurally weakened ground level wood poles
- In-field installation with no service disruption
The DEMIRWRAP® restores load-bearing capacity while protecting against further environmental degradation.

The Result
The reinforcement solution delivered:
- Structural rehabilitation at approximately 1/10th the cost of full pole replacement
- Extended service life of aging infrastructure
- Reduced financial burden on ratepayers
- Improved grid reliability without system-wide rebuild
By strengthening existing assets, ENWIN advanced resilience while maintaining cost efficiency.
